In a Flashback taking place Christmas a year prior to the story's starting point, Kyoko plans a secret Santa and Christmas dinner event for her friends, informs everyone and makes preparations with name cards out of good paper and such. Much to her dismay the Officio's leading members decide to cancel her plans in favor of preparing for the arrival of Walpurgisnacht due one month from then.
Kyoko shouts at them and angrily leaves the meeting, determined to get the best presents for everyone whether they want to or not. She heads to the Culexus quarters to get Yuma to accompany her and makes to open the door but stops, remembering how Yuma once shut down her soul gem reflexively for barging in unannounced while she was changing.
In a mischievous fit Kyoko decides to enter the air vents and infiltrate Yuma's room in a Solid Snake like way, puts on a Christmas hat takes a ladder from a store room and climbs into the ventilation system. From inside she can see into three rooms, an Otaku looking one, a normal one, and one with a gun collection and decides to pulse a message to Yuma first to see the reactions.
Recalling the training she took with Yuma, Kyoko focuses on a positive feeling and pulses a message for Yuma to open the door. All three Culexus react, but only the Otaku gets up from her bed to open her room and Kyoko kicks the air vent hard enough to break the ceiling and falls into Yuma's room, covered in dust. She gets up coughing and shouts about “MAXIMUM CHRISTMAS!” at the shocked Culexus.
While cleaning the mess, Yuma scolds her about setting a proper example and wants to know why she is in her room instead of spending Christmas morning with somebody else, hinting at Sayaka. Kyoko sneaks up from behind, lifts Yuma up and spins her around for getting cocky but lets her down again when the Culexus starts getting sick.
She then explains that her friends canceled this year's secret Santa, that she intends to get everyone presents herself and that she wants Yuma's help. The Culexus reminds her that this year's Walpurgisnacht is predicted to be much stronger than the last and suggests taking it easy on Christmas.
Kyoko smacks her helmet, sending Yuma falling on her bed, and explains that the approaching Walpurgisnacht gives them even more reasons to celebrate Christmas as to take everyone's mind off of the looming danger for a while. Yuma asks her not to hit her since the training Animus Speculum is not very resilient, and agrees to help get presents for everyone.
Taking a look at Yuma's room, Kyoko discovers that she is a he fan of the Miracle Midori series and tells her not to let it become her entire image, promising not to tell anyone about it herself. When Yuma asks where they should start their gift shopping, Kyoko brings forth The List from her hat.
The list consists of six names: Sayaka, Mami, Murderface, Kharn, Malal and Yuma. Kyoko takes it away before her friend can take a look to avoid ruining the surprise of getting her a gift, too, who just makes a list of her own with the first five names and suggests starting at Mitakihara Central Mall. While she puts on the rest of her suit, Kyoko tells her that she will make Yuma Equerry if she ever happens to become Warmaster since she is so dependable.
They depart to the Mall with Yuma driving the Warmaster's armored jeep, explaining how she always wanted to drive it and can't pass up the chance to use it during a mission from her direct superior since Malal usually doesn't allow anyone to drive the marauder. She asks Kyoko if the mission is sanctioned, who replies that she told Kharn and Kyubey to wait for her awesome gifts, which is sanctioned enough for Yuma.
The pair enters the huge high class mall, ignoring the stares at their costumes, and decide to start looking for Sayaka's gift first. After thinking for a while, and imagining her significant other in fancy underwear, Kyoko decides to get both panties and a strawberry cake. Yuma offers to buy the cake while Kyoko looks for her own dessert and exchanges phone numbers to keep in contact should she find a suitable gift for one of the others on the way.
In the underwear store she meets Oriko who greets her in a friendly manner and asks if she is gift shopping. Behind her is Kirika, who in turn taunts Kyoko for wearing a Santa hat and her costume in broad daylight. Kyoko tells the Eversor that you can't be too old for Christmas and turns her attention back to Oriko who offers her help in finding a suitable gift.
Kyoko admits that this is her first time buying lingerie and that she doesn't know Sayaka's exact measurements, but notices that Oriko's build is pretty close and asks her to be a model for a bit. Oriko blushes and Kirika shouts at her for asking her friend to wear lingerie in front of her. The blonde however expresses her desire to help and assures Kirika that she trusts in Kyoko being a good person.
Kirika yields and leaves to buy cake for herself and her friend while Oriko helps Kyoko. The blonde mentions how her friend resembles Murderface, who she met at an office party once, and asks what kind of design she has in mind. She wants the most scandalously lewd set imaginable, but decides to have Oriko model a reasonable set instead and later exchange it for another one once she knows the correct sizes. So she tells her short term model that she wants a lacy, pretty set, who leads her to the shelves where a brand she knows is placed and gives her a crash course on lingerie.
After a while Oriko picks out a white combination with a tasteful lace design, mentioning how well it would suit Sayaka's skin tone, hair and eyes, asking if she should model it. Kyoko blushes, confused at her attraction to the blonde girl, and steps away from her touch when she tries to feel her head, worried that the red head might be catching a cold. She tells Oriko that she doesn't want to take up too much of her time and only needs to know if the clothes fit without having her model them, so the helpful girl moves to the changing room alone.
While waiting for Oriko, Kyoko receives a text message from Yuma who bought a strawberry cream cake with custom dedication and wants to know of she should buy one of the skull servitor personal digital assistants she saw in one store as the Warmaster might like it. She types a thank you message and confirms that the skull servitor would make a fine gift for Kharn and sends the message just as Oriko returns.
The blonde girl confirms that the sizes are right and thanks Kyoko for not having her model them, blushing about how the design doesn't really cover anything. Kyoko decides to get the set, but Oriko mentions that she told the attendant to get her a fresh pair since she has already worn this one and will keep it. Kyoko insists on paying for the lingerie since she made Oriko help her out and replies to her protest that Kirika will appreciate this, too, and that she can pay her back with a gift of her own if she really feels bad about it.
As the attendant hands them their respective bags of clothes, Kyoko hears Oriko whisper something, can't really make it out, but hears a soft voice in her head, mentioning that she wanted to model the lingerie for her.
Just then Kirika returns, a cake box added to her load, and threatens to gut Kyoko if she did anything to Oriko. Kyoko ignores her, thanks the blonde for her help and turns to leave. Kirika stops her a few steps away and apologizes for her earlier behavior, not without claiming to kill both them and Sayaka if she catches Kyoko looking at her girlfriend again. Grinning, Kyoko replies that she will use Kirika's flayed skin as a cape if she touches Sayaka and departs.
She waits for the two of them to leave before gasping for breath to recover from the stressful experience with Oriko, complaining to herself how this was not Maximum Christmas at all. Shortly after Yuma approaches, wonders why she is already looking tired before finishing even half of her list an asks whose gift they should look for next.
After adding Kyubey to The List and planning to get the scandalous underwear later, Kyoko decides to look for a gift for Mami and mentions how she seems to be in need of new bras. Yuma mentions that she noticed, too, but suggests a tea related gift instead. Kyoko sets her mind on getting both a tea set and a bag of premium tea and, admitting that she knows little about it, agrees to splitting up again to let Yuma take care of Mami's gift while looking for the others herself.
Thinking about Murderface's gift, her mind wanders off to Mami and Oriko. Yuma pulses a message for her to focus, and Kyoko takes revenge by sending out lewd imaginations of Mami, cowing her into silence. Choosing to get a warm jacket, some cigarettes and alcohol for Murderface, she remembers the time they first took her in as Girl A.
On the way to the liquor store after buying a blue bomber jacket and a pack of cigarettes, Sayaka calls her phone. She complains about Kyoko's bad form in front of the Warmaster and asks where she is. Kyoko tells her that she doesn't care about what other people think, that Christmas is important to show your appreciation to people in your life and that a witch is no reason not to celebrate this day.
During her conversation with Sayaka, she gestures towards the pink haired, twin tailed shop attendant to gift wrap three bottles of Kong whiskey for her. Sayaka tells her not to overreact and that they can celebrate after Walpurgisnacht is dealt with since being in a good mood will not take care of the witch.
Remembering her family, Kyoko brings up the possibility of them dying in the fight against Walpurgisnacht and reasons that they should celebrate while they are still all there. Sayaka reminds her that she promised not to talk about these things, who replies that they should just have shut up and let her do the secret Santa. She still claims that the event will be good for everyone. They affirm each others love and hang up, looking forward to the evening.
The amber eyed attendant pretends that Kyoko buys the alcohol for her parents and gives her a small bottle tied with a pink ribbon as a bonus, mentioning how she is a good girlfriend and should take good care of Sayaka. When asked how she knows their names, she explains that Kyoko's phone is loud enough for her to hear the conversation and apologizes for listening in. She mentions how management told her to take a personal approach to customers and claims that Kyoko looks like she needed to hear something like this.
Kyoko thanks her for the compliment and mentions that it would be nice if other booze shop attendants were as nice and pretty as her. She wishes the blushing girl a Merry Christmas and takes off to recharge her Maximum Christmas mood by buying Yuma's present in an Otaku store, giggling about her choice. She then calls her junior to ask about her progress with Mami's gift.
Yuma explains that the purchase drained her money but she also managed to buy a gift for Malal who called just as she was trying to guess a good present and told her to buy pineapple salad. With all other presents taken care of, Yuma suggests buying catnip for their feline boss, matching Kyoko's own idea and agrees to meet at the pet shop.
In front of the store, Kyoko hands the young Culexus her gift and insists that she uses it immediately. Yielding to the Eversor's persistence, Yuma puts her brand new reindeer one piece pajama on over her suit, mentioning how this is the worst Christmas ever in a droopy pose. Kyoko corrects her that this is the most MAXIMUM Christmas ever!
Stepping inside the store, Kyoko decides to get not only the catnip, but also a fancy cat tower. While waiting for the shopkeeper, Yuma is messed around with by a crocodile. As a girl with a striking resemblance to Kyoko steps out from the back of the shop, casually mentioning that the crocodile is just being friendly, Yuma mentions something about science fiction and Kyoko loosing her virginity, earning a confused look from her senior.
Ignoring the Culexus for now, Kyoko enthusiastically greets the shopkeeper, who joins in on the Maximum Christmas mood by perfectly imitating the red head's pose and speech pattern, startling Yuma with their combined annoying energy. She then asks for a cat tower that kicks ass, and is directed to the CatMaster 3000. The shopkeeper explains that this is the best model she has and offers to give a discount on the catnip if Kyoko buys the expensive tower.
While handling the payment, she asks Kyoko about her outfit, making smalltalk about odd clothing trends of showing skin in weird places. While removing the crocodile from Yuma's leg, she asks if Kyoko want to adopt any pets, who replies that she's too busy now but considers doing so some time later. She introduces herself as Hibiki Gahana and exchanges numbers with Kyoko before saying goodbye.
On the way to the car, Yuma thanks Kyoko for taking her along, stating that she enjoyed the day a lot. Kyoko pulls her into a hug and, after organizing her thoughts, explains that she is glad somebody else understands what she wants to do, making sure everyone remembers what is important. Yuma assures her that they will not forget and suggests taking off. Kyoko tells her to get the Marauder while she checks something last minute.
Yuma heads off and Kyoko returns to the pet shop before eventually heading back to the Officio. Yuma requests help from the other Culexus, who bring a trolley and assist in unloading the car before returning to their quarters since their combined aura would ruin the deliveries.
Kyoko decides to start giving out presents with Kyubey and pulls the cart toward his office with Yuma pushing from behind. The Culexus voices her concern about barging into the Incubator's office without prior notice, but Kyoko assures she will take responsibility and kicks the door open. Inside are Malal, Kharn and Mami, startled by the loud noise. Mami asks what she is doing, but is cut off by Malal demanding an explanation for Yuma's appearance while Kharn laughs at the idea of making the reindeer getup the new Animus Speculum model.
Kyoko tells Malal that she is not making fun of the Culexus, wrapping an arm around her, and explains that they are getting into Christmas spirit before pointing at her stash of gifts. Mami speaks up, but Kyoko cuts her off and demands not to talk about Walpurgisnacht and only allows Maximum Christmas. Kharn understands her excitement but asks her to be more quiet, pointing at the sleeping Incubator, exhausted from tracking Walpurgisnacht over a long time.
She asks Yuma to unload Kyubey's gifts next to his desk and hands out the other presents. Mami and Malal thank her while Kharn doubtfully unwraps her gift, expecting a joke. On seeing the servitor skull, she bursts out in excitement, stating that she always wanted something like this and all but tackles Yuma into a hug, thanking her and Kyoko.
Kyubey wakes from the commotion, and promptly jumps on the box containing the CatMaster 3000, rolling around on top of the bag full of catnip. While Malal, Kharn and Mami take pictures of this, Kyoko asks the blonde Vindicare where Sayaka and Murderface are. She answers that the former returned to their apartment, the latter is in her quarters as usual. She apologizes for the earlier incident and thanks Kyoko for the gift with a kiss on the cheek and a hug, stating she will treasure it just as she treasures her.
Kyoko asks the small group to help Kyubey set up his cat tower, to which Malal agrees, and leaves for the living quarters, accompanied by Yuma. She tells the young Culexus that she will do this one on her own and enters Murderface's room.
The broody Vindicare asks what she wants in a tired voice and Kyoko walks over, sits right next to her, basically trapping her in a corner, and drops her presents into her lap, wishing her a Merry Christmas. Murderface is stunned for a while before mentioning that she didn't get anything for Kyoko in return, who replies that she just wants to spread the holiday spirit to her friends and just asks that she doesn't finish the alcohol in one sitting.
Murderface apologizes for being hard to deal with and thanks Kyoko for the present, who tells her she will always be there to forgive her or give her presents when she needs it. They spend s while together until Murderface falls asleep, hugging her new jacket to her cherst.
Kyoko leaves the room and rejoins Yuma, who is surprised by Kyoko's statement that there is another gift to give other than that for Sayaka. She takes out a shoe box from the bags stashed on the trolley, opens it up and hands Yuma the small tortoise she bought at the pet shop after parting. The young Culexus is moved to tears and promises to take good care of the animal and to spread some Maximum Christmas to the other Culexus.
After Yuma departs to her living area, Kyoko heads off herself, back home to Sayaka. Her girlfriend greets her, failing to pretend being annoyed and hugs her tightly, apologizing for getting mad earlier. Sayaka explains that she didn't want to be reminded that this might be their last Christmas together and wanted to just work through the holiday to start regular days afterward without having to deal with the thought of either of them dying.
Kyoko calls her selfish for dragging the others into this, but she replies that she was just scared of loosing someone she doesn't deserve. Before she can say any more, Kyoko kisses her and copies her earlier rant about “what if”s before handing over her presents.
