Geography
Geography, or the world, refers to the study and/or creation of background to the things that surround us, such as the political atmosphere, physical terrain, and human make-up of regions of the Earth.
In the world of Magical Girl Noir Quest, the majority of the world is similar to the one that we live in, with quite a few significant differences.
Contents
Planetary geography[edit]
Not much has physically changed to Earth. However, the Moon (Luna) is known to be physically affected by the Akashic Realm via Faust’s Gem, including moon-quakes and changes to physical terrain; how this affects known regions of the Moon’s surface has yet to be ascertained, although the First Officio’s Lunar HQ is mentioned to be massive, so there’s that.
North America[edit]
Varrigan City is said to be in the USA; given the city’s IRL basis in a video game, it is possibly in Nevada.
The Eighth Officio is headquartered in the Californian desert.
Canada exists, and the Seventeenth Officio is/was based there.
South America[edit]
Given the canon’s relationship to Black Lagoon, it can be presumed that both Colombia and Venezuela exist, or existed.
Europe[edit]
Italy and the Vatican City both exist.
The most recent chapters occur somewhere in the rainy British countryside; however, it is unknown if this infers England, the UK, Great Britain or the British Isles.
France, Germany and Poland both exist, or existed.
The existence of Colombia infers that Iberia and the Iberian nations exist, or once existed, but neither Portugal nor Spain have yet to be mentioned by name.
Northern Asia[edit]
I.e.: Russia, Central Asia, former USSR states
The Siberian facility is in Siberia. Uh, duh?
It is unclear if the USSR/CCCP/Soviet Union is still around, or how the Cold War and post-Soviet era occurred in general.
East Asia[edit]
Japan is the main location for the setting, as is Mitakihara. If Mitakihara is similar to canon in PMMM, then Kazamino also exists, and both are reasonably close to Tokyo.
North Korea was once mentioned; therefore, South Korea presumably also exists.
Hong Kong is mentioned.
Revy, aka Two-Guns, exists; this means China must geographically exist, or did exist at some point. Historically or political unknown and unmentioned in MGNQ, however.
Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent[edit]
Roanapur (from Black Lagoon) is said to exist; the city, if similar to Black Lagoon’s canon, is situated in the Thai Gulf, somewhere on the coastal border between Myanmar/Burma, Cambodia, or Thailand - the maps from the show are somewhat inconsistent.
The Heist arc is set in the Gulf of Thailand, roughly in the large nautical area between Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines.
India and Pakistan have yet to be mentioned in the story, although the Himalayas were once briefly mentioned.
Middle East[edit]
In one of the earlier chapters that briefly mentioned the news, it was implied that the Middle East had been united in some form or another; however, this has yet to be elaborated on. However, in one spin-off from the work, the Middle East appears to have become a united nation under the name “Syrakhanistan”; the details of which are expounded upon in the odd format of the browser-game “NationStates”. Whether or not the Author has endorsed the unification of the Middle East as Syrakhanistan as an official spin-off or write-up is currently unknown.
The Sixteenth Officio is known to have it’s HQ here, presumably in the Red Sea or the Gulf.
Africa[edit]
Related to the Middle Eastern unification, it is unknown if said unification implied that the Northern Sahara region was also included, especially since Egypt and Libya were both mentioned briefly.
Somalia is mentioned to have existed.
South Africa was once mentioned.
Other than that, Africa hasn’t been talked about much.
Oceania/Australasia[edit]
The Sixth Officio is headquartered in Sydney.
Antarctica and the Arctic[edit]
The Siberian facility resides in the Arctic circle.
One of the battles of the Walpurgisnacht Event was mentioned to have taken place in Antarctica.
The Moon, Space and Other Dimensions[edit]
One key feature of MGNQ that (probably) differs from our universe is the confirmed existence of extraterrestrial life as well as other dimensions, such as the Akashic Realm and the Transcendent’s Home (name WIP). Other timelines existed at one point or another, far before the events of the story.
The First Officio is based on the Moon.
The First’s Moon Base is directly underneath the massive pink Soul Gem that houses the entity known as Faust.
The home planet of the Incubators has yet to be revealed, although it is clear that they are not from Earth.
