Character History
Unlike the other members of the Pleiades Saints, Mirai spent time with Midori off duty. After the Callidus fails a mission and defects to another Officio, Mirai is sent to retrieve her soul gem.
Hunt
Mirai appears in Siberia, leading a horde of bears and killing an advance party from the Ninth Officios R&D base in a most brutal fashion. Resting in a clearing surrounded by bears and corpses, she encounters Chiaki and Midori. Mirai tells her former coworker that she has no reason to talk to a traitor and was ordered to return her soul gem, either intact or shattered.
However she offers Midori to surrender and to spare Chiakis live if she does, taunting the black haired magical girl at the same time. Midori refuses, telling her that she loves Chiaki and will not turn her back on her. She points a gun at Mirai, stating that she will kill her if she doesn't leave.
Mirai then raises her blade, rousing the bears, asking for Chiakis last words before making the bears attack, barely blocking Kharns sudden assault from behind. They exchange blows, her own graceful combat style meeting Kharns berserker rage until she steps back and tries to send a bear in, only to see it cut in half right away.
A few blows later, Mirai manages to hurt Kharns leg before taking a blow to her side. She tries to escape, but is eventually taken out by the russian magical girl cutting off her arms and head with her now burning chainsword. Her soul gem is recovered for interrogation while her corpse burns to ashes.
Training
Mirai finds herself awake in a strange location, her senses disabled with only lines of text in her mind, wondering what is going on, thinking she should be dead.
She is asked about her mission and answers that she was instructed to return Midori. She didn't know her target was with the Ninth Warmaster so she tried to scare them off. She then explains that the bears in the area are wilder than what she is used to, tainted with something. She remembers being killed by a monster and panicks, asking what is happening to her.
Mirai is told that she is in a machine and will only be released when she answers truthfully. She is asked why Midori is important enough that she would have killed her unless she surrendered. Mirai replies that she would never hurt Midori since they are friends and desperately begs to be released from the cold confines of the scary machine, promising to tell her captors everything she knows.
At that moment Mirais consciousness is taken over by her Incubator. After some time, he disconencts again and forces the magical girl to witch out, her soul gem exploding into a barrier that swallows the Ninth Warmaster in training.
Midori & Magical Midori
Inside the witch barrier, one belonging to Chiaki instead of her own, Mirai encounters Malal. The Culexus explains the situation and convinces her to help find the fragments of Chiaki's psyche. They team up to investigate, come across a reflection of the Hanegawa ramen restaurant and try to reach out to a fragment of Chiaki nearby. Unfortunately they have to give up for a while since she is too powerful, her mind too far gone, and decide to try again later, assuming the current downpour affects the fragment negatively.
When the pair returns to the restaurant, they find Midori and two other fragments of Chiaki, and the green haired girl rushes over to hug her friend. Mirai is happy about meeting her again, but tells Midori that she should not have come. Midori says that she wants to save her, but Mirai explains that the situation is rather complicated.
She explains her cooperation with Malal and that she knows what her friend is trying to do in the barrier, offering to answer some questions. Mirai explains that they want to bring the four fragments together in one place to make something happen, but don't know what exactly that will be. They started with the most difficult one but had to retreat due to the rain.
She is impressed that Midori already found two fragments and mentions another problematic one, the part of Chiaki that wants to destroy herself, suggesting that three fragments might be enough. Midori demands more explanations, but Malal decides that anything she doesn't need to know will not be helpful and Mirai agrees to not tell her any more.
When they notice a fragment approaching them, Midori decides to take it head-on instead of running or waiting it out. Just then a bestial roar from outside shatters the windows, hurling glass shards all over the place. Chiaki and Homura tackle Midori to the ground to take cover while Malal and Mirai jump outside and engage the angry fragment first.
A feral looking form of Chiaki, it's hands and legs turned into jagged metal even more monstrous than Kharn, heavy plate armor covering her upper body, face covered in scars, wielding a jagged sword as big as herself. Mirai is easily thrown aside by the impact of the jagged weapon crashing into her own broadsword and is only saved by Malal throttling the armored fragment with her crowbar. The two other fragments cling to it's arms, trying to remove the sword, and Midori hugs the spiked form. Their opponent roars and shakes them off, but loses it's weapon in the process.
Malal orders Midori to stand back while the others try to restrain the armored fragment again to focus all her attention on convincing the angry monstrosity. They burst forward and are easily beaten down one after another within a few heartbeats. Mirai stays down while Midori manages to calm the armored fragment down and even drives off Kharn with a heated speech and slaps in the face before collapsing from exhaustion.
Due to their bad shape, the group returns to the restarant to heal and rest up until the rain stops. Mirai has Midori rest on her lap, complimenting her bravery in facing the Betrayer. Midori uses this chance to ask how Mirai got into this situation and she explains that Jyuubey ordered her to investigate the Ninth's research base a few months ago. She didn't learn anything as a civilian and turned to the bears only to find them corrupted to the point of madness.
On her way to the base Jyuubey took control of her body instead of just borrowing her senses for a bit like she thought he would. She remembers nothing between this moment and waking up inside the machine other than being puled into darkness. The same happened after talking to Chiaki, which was the moment she found herself inside the barrier.
Midori then asks to check her soul gem, finding it in acceptable shape and tells her friend that she wants to get everyone out of this barrier safe and that Souji can surely do something about her body. Mirai agrees to working towards this goal and lies down to take a rest herself when Midori gets up.
When the rain stops, the group departs towards the outskirts, the still sleeping Midori carried on Chiakis back until she wakes to save time. While the sky darkens, they arrive at a graveyard where Malal states that the final fragment is close. Following the path they arrive at a clearing and find twenty numbered grave stones with shades carrying golden weapons in front of them as well as the fourth fragment, bearing blinding golden wings and a shield of the same material, her hair tied with a crimson ribbon. Kharn lies in a pool of her own blood, one arm torn from her shoulder while the fourth fragment thanks Midori for bringing the other three to her.
Enraged Midori screams an insult at the winged fragment who turns away to have the shades kill everyone. As the fighting breaks out, Mirai summons a group of bears into the fray, chained and driven by her own anger while Midori rushes towards the fourth fragment but is killed by a golden weapon before reaching her.
During the chaotic encounter Mirai defeats the golden broadsword shade. Injured, she is supported by Malal who is now wielding the golden weapon of her previous opponent, and together they efficiently block and counter their incoming targets. Nearby Tiny Pete, now dual wielding a gloden hammer and his own weapon, has teamed up with Kharn, who regained consciousness and wields the combined form of Blood God in her remaining arm.
Malal notices the glowing form of Midori appear behind the fragments, shocked by the impossible feat. Mirai shouts a warning at her friend as the green haired Callidus approaches the laughing fragment to stop her from smashing the golden shield into the fallen opponent more than she already has. She watches her friend talk Chiaki down and hug the fragment before disappearing again.
As the barrier starts to collapse, the plan to reunite the fragments a success, Mirai gives her soul gem to Malal to have the Culexus exchange it for Midori's life. Malal unleashes her power to reach Midori's soul and while the others leave the barrier Mirai waits for her friend to return.
The sky clears up and when Midori appears, Mirai rests her friends head on her lap until she wakes up. She explains that they have some time for themselves and thanks Midori for accepting her gift. When asked about her reasons, Mirai tells Midori that she could not bear seeing her friend die in the barrier she willingly entered to save her and Chiaki.
Mirai tells her that this had to happen and that she is at peace and places a kiss on Midori's forehead, appreciating her friendship as the barrier collapses around them. Midori tells her friend that she will miss her in a final embrace and Mirai wishes that she will not forget about her as she ceases to exist.
