Revision as of 03:45, 6 April 2015
A collection of Question and Answer sessions with Deculture, collected from threads or from his Ask.fm. This page contains questions and answers about magic and how it works in the world of MGNQ, including how magic and Magical Girls' bodies work, and supernatural-related setting info.
Questions from Threads
Thread 12
- Do we have a magic scan ability, or does it only work against witches? [1]
- Chiaki can sense Witches. But being a Vindicare, she can't track or sense Magical Girls too effectively. You need a Culexus for that. [2]
- Could we have scanned lori's fake friend and knew she was fake? [3]
- Not to give everything away, but as a Callidus, Midori is pretty good at her job. Callidus focus on undetectable subterfuge and espionage. There was a way for you to detect if she was fake, but you would have scanned the wrong person. [4]
Thread 62
- What kind of wish makes a Culexus? [5]
- Very specific wishes that may be a bit spoilery to answer now. [6]
- This QB seems to require using its own energy supply in order to power wishes, instead of pulling from their race's stockpile.
- Is the energy that this QB collects acquired from when a Puella Magi Witches out, when a Witch is killed, or when a used Grief Seed is consumed? [7]
Thread 72
- Is Not-BRS a natural part of Homu Barrier or something entirely else? [8]
- Ahaha, well, please read on, I can't reveal it right now! [9]
Questions from Ask.fm
- Can a Callidus create audio illusions as well as physical illusions? Like create a small bubble where noise cannot be heard outside of a bubble but the people inside can hear each other? And can they make it seem like two people are standing in silence when they're actually not? It's for...science
- I would say she can! Midori creates the whole package of visual, auditory and tactile illusion. Same goes for Wendy, although hers is more offense/fear-based. Enishi just becomes invisible entirely. [10]
- Does Chiaki still have wings in her untransformed state?
- Nope, they go away. [11]
- What all supernatural forces exist in MGNQ? Could a non-canon writeup mess around with them?
- All kinds of supernatural forces exist. Ghosts and stuff. Vampires, werewolves...you can make the argument that they're actually magical girls, or that the Akashic Realm brought them to life. [12]
- How effective is training while transformed versus training while not transformed?
- Some girls can train their non-transformed selves, but others really can't function in a combat-capable capacity without transformation. Those who can has the privilege of being able to 'stack' their normie training with the benefits of transformation, although it's generally recommended that you train in both states. The first to increase your natural strength and endurance, the second to be able to control your Magical Girl abilities better. [13]
- So some girls don't get any benefit from exercising when they're not transformed?
- More like they can't exercise at all, or it would take too long for their normal bodies to get adapted to exercising (i.e. Chiaki). [14]
- So exercising in meguca form isn't as effective as exercising in civilian form?
- It's mostly equal, but it really depends on what the Magical Girl wants to do, and what she wants to build on, and how her physical fitness is at the time. Sayaka trains as hard as she can in both states. [15]
- How often do the Venenum have to surgically remove soul gems that end up "going in too deep"
- God dammit anon
Answer is: Not that often, but there's always an uptick in incidence when the recruitment period comes in. Newly-contracted magical girls get curious and try new things. It got so bad that the Venenum had to give out pamphlets for it. Magical Girls and hormones, man [16]
- How does a magical girl perceive the inside of her soulgem when confined to it (either by body destruction or otherwise)? Is it a surreal dreamscape, or does the MG consciousness go into a catatonic state?
- I've always seen it as something of the Magical Girl just falling into a dark, dreamless sleep whenever they get their body destroyed (akin to being comatose, or when Space Marines trigger their sus-an membrane to preserve their minds and body when they get too damaged). But if they sleep for too long, they may have a chance of waking up in that sensory-deprived state - which could cause a Witch Out. To address that, Officios have trained their Magical Girls to either prolong the sleep as much as they can, or go into a 'lucid dreaming' state - where they force themselves to dream of things they like doing, in order to stave off Soul Gem corruption. That's what Kyoko is doing now, most likely. [17]
- Is fleshmetal and the results of horrible scientific experimentation inheritable because magic?
- Sometimes, yes! [18]
- Do alpha witches usually retain their memories and personalities? Feel free to tell me on Skype if it's not a thing you want to answer in public.
- Alpha will have some of that, yes. It's the Omega-class ones (and the Omega-class plus) like Pinky and Homucifer that have full consciousness. [19]
- Can meguca get sick to regular, non-magical illnesses? Cold, flu, STDs, cancer, etc? Or is it only the really strong, Thirteenth-Officio-is-out-to-get-you kind of stuff?
- If a Magical Girl is too tired or too stressed for too long it starts to catch up, so you'll have them getting fevers and colds. Cancer should be right out, and STDs won't really stick. [20]
- What happens if a Magical Girl wishes to be a Kamen Rider?
- She becomes a Hero of Justice! [21]
- Can a magical girl get physically exhausted to the point of passing out by using too much magic but without the risk of witching out? What about getting just purely exhausted?
- Pretty sure they can! Or else Kharn would have made a lot of girls witch out in her bedroom! [22]
- Why would megucas wear corsets, hats, or capes? Aren't those a liability in battle?
- They're also magical armor, if they're part of their costume! [23]
- Are there any diseases unique to megucas? What about Incubators and Maerorus?
- I wouldn't say so, besides weaponized magical diseases and so on (in the case for Magical Girls). Incubators sometimes gets fleas. Maerorus get indigestion, dyspepsia and bouts of ardent, seething hubris/megalomania. [24]
- Do magical girls get periods?
- I think generally the 'bleeding' can be handled by a trip to the Venenum, but there are always periods in a month where Magical Girls can be very aggressive. [25]
- Are magical girls immune to STDs or something? I mean, the way Kharn slept around, you'd think she'd have caught something by now.
- Eversor resistance! But yeah Magical Girls do get monthly checkups and stuff in their Officios, and if there's anything like that it usually gets resolved by the Venenums. [26]
- How hard would an Eversor have to push to get essentially a rundown of training in one week? Would it even be possible? I know there's sleep deprivation training, pain tolerance, weapons and PT. Am I missing anything else?
- Altitude training, strength development, sense deprivation training! [27]
- But how hard would it be to do all that in one week, give or take?
- Very hard, I'm pretty sure the Magical Girl would be in the hospital for a while because of overexertion! [28]
- If a meguca wishes for the perfect boyfriend/girlfriend, would the wish grab somebody from the world who is the best match, or would it create a new person whole-cloth?
- It depends mainly on the wish, but I'd hazard that the Incubator would look for someone close to the meguca and then turn them into the contractee's ideal mate. Some Incubators (like Kyuubey) are pragmatic enough to tell the contractee that 'you know that such an arrangement will never play out well, right?' and ask them to consider another wish. [29]
- If a meguca's body dies when they're on the cusp of witching out will it prevent them from doing so or make it more likely to happen?
- The latter! Only Soul Gem destruction prevents WitchOuts! [30]
- What happens to a magical girl's inventory when she dies?
- The stuff she has in there usually ends around or underneath her corpse. Sometimes it's lost to the ether. [31]
- If Chiaki died, how far into the air would her body be flung by the sudden appearance of all that crap in her inventory?
- Not a whole lot? The inventory in her shield is different! [32]
- So megucas are like enemies in RPGs that can sometimes have rare drops or no drops at all?
- Sure! Hahaha! [33]
- If a meguca removes her costume during sex, does she lose her powers?
- No, the costume is just clothes and/or armor. She's still a meguca unless she cancels her transformation. [34]
- So when a Callidus can't get any they get fat? If so, why is Midori so fat?
- Because she eats a lot! [35]
- If two witches were in the same barrier, what generally happens? Do they fight and try to consume each other? Compete on hunting intruders? Work together against outside threats? Not even realize/acknowledge the others presence?
- Honestly, all of those can happen. It really depends on the witches. [36]
- Are there witches out there that still have a shred of humanity left in them? Like, they're not totally gone, some part of them is still there. Would that part of them still want to help magical girls in their own twisted way?
- Yes, but their perception is pretty skewed. Sometimes there are 'benevolent' witches, but only up to a point - their hunger for magical girl flesh would soon overtake them. [37]
- We know that people without soul gems can use Golden Weapons; can people without soul gems become attuned to a magical girl's soul gem?
- Nope! [38]
- Regarding regenerating limbs and such; does using a Golden Weapon increase the chance of not being able to regenerate? Also, did Kyoko lose her eye to Kirika's claws or the katana?
- Yes, Golden Weapons have that kind of ability where they can cause permanent wounds that just won't regenerate. Kyoko lost her eye to a magic-enhanced katana, but it wasn't the golden katana itself. [39]
- Can a shield be a valid Eversor Weapon? (No special tricks or attachments, ala Riesbyfe from Melty, More like Captain America)
- Of course! [40]
- Why don't magical girls in MGNQ use telepathy like they do in PMMM?
- Well, I wanted them to rely on Culexus for that! [41]
- You've said many times that magical girls only last 2-3 years. Yet, looking at the timeline, about 10 of them have lasted for 5 years or more (Xiaomei having lasted for 9 years if she's still alive).
- Is that because these ones were really well taken care of or because of plot armor? :V Of course the stories will be about Magical Girls who are a bit more hardy than the rest! The 2-3 years is the average! [42]
- Is the average so low because of all the magical girls Chiaki kills?
- Maybe. [43]
- Does a magical girls body die if it's dismembered? What if it's put back together?
- It dies, yes. [44]
- So... when does Chiaki figure out how many spatial dimensions exist in the Akashic Realm? Judging by the bizarre descriptions, it's probably at least four, right? Did some deity accidentally mix up one of the spatial dimensions with the flow of time?
- Probably when she really gets into exploring it by herself. She'll discover it relatively soon, she already has an inkling of it. But yeah, the Akashic Realm is all sorts of fucked up! [45]
- Can Culexuses witch out?
- They can't! The moment they do is either they die in an anti-magic explosion that kills every Magical Girl around them in a 1-mile radius, or crumble into dust. [46]
- What determines if a magical girl needs to be retired?
- Incubators can track the state of Soul Gem purity of every girl contracted to them, as well as their general mental state and well-being. Sometimes they'll get flagged on a particular magical girl, who, while their gem may be pure, is quickly degenerating in a mental sense - probably someone whose power has compromised them, or simply breaking down from all the pressure, or even just going absolutely nuts. Their Soul Gems would slowly start to darken in a way that no Grief Seed would be able to resolve - it's that kind of despair that no one can come back from, and Incubators need to make sure they don't spread it to the other girls or they'll have a crisis on their hands. Thus, retirement. [47]
- About how big is your average magical girl's inventory space?
- Is it really uncommon to have an inventory that's bigger than that? The average inventory of a magical girl is probably like a big bulky backpack. And yes, it's very uncommon. [48]
- Aside from Chiaki's time stop and visiting people in their dreams, how else can Pinky make her presence known/interact with others?
- She can appear in people's hallucinations and also in barriers. She also pokes her head into the visions of prognasticators, especially when they're trying to find stuff about Chiaki. [49]
- Does Walpurgisnacht happen every year?
- Not really, unless something really horrifying is going down. It's like that really big hurricane or tornado that comes along every once in a blood moon that kills everything and everyone! [50]
- Aside from Incubator fuckery, how can 2 megucas attune their soul gems together?
- By praying to the Blessed Lady and sacrificing 100 Magical Girls to her. [51]
- If you separate a culexus' soulgem from her body, what will happen? And if it is the normal thing, which part will make other people sick - the soulgem or the body?
- The Soul Gem. [52]
- Please explain Witch classes thanks
- CHARLIE - Normal Witches. Can be solo'd by a competent middle-ranking Magical Girl, or a newbie squad.
- BETA - Stronger witches, possibly with familiars. Needs a competent squad, maybe two.
- ALPHA - Witches with familiars, the kind that's consumed human flesh already. May have intelligence. Needs at least three squads. Can be solo'd by Rank Leader.
- ALPHA PLUS - Alpha, but with witch-familiars and/or slave Witches. Needs specialists/killsquads led by Rank Leader.
- OMEGA - Walpurgisnacht.
- OMEGA PLUS - Geheimnisnacht. [53]
- Is an untransformed magical girl vulnerable to the sort of madness witches inflict on normals? Or does she receive some sort of protection?
- She should be protected. [54]
- When a girl makes a wish, what exactly goes on with the wish? Is it just the Incubators interpretation? Or do the memories and feelings of the girl play into it? Or both?
- Both, actually. It's not an exact science, but it ensures that it's what the girl really wants, and something that the Incubators can benefit from. So there are no faustian deals (lel) that can happen - everyone benefits. [55]
- Can a meguca take the corruption of another meguca by touching Soul Gems together non-lewdly?
- Only if they're attuned together! [56]
- Malal was already a Culexus for 5 or so years before she died in Yumaquest, right? If she hadn't did and no meguca killed her, how long would she of lasted until she burnt out like other Culexus? Or did her suit fully prevent her from burning out?
- She was living on borrowed time! I would say she probably would have lasted another year or so without Walpurgisnacht. [57]
- What are the chances of two magical girls having similar powers?
- Not that rare, actually! [58]
- What are the odds of an untransformed magical girl defeating a fully transformed magical girl?
- Not very good. They'd have to do a lot of underhanded trickery to even kill one. Thankfully, people like Kaneda Madoka and Nicole Touchdown are masters at that kind of thing. [59]
- If I pulled the helmet of a Culexus off, would she die?
- Unexpectedly? You'd probably get a reflex blast of what they can do, and either you do a Wendy, get set on fire, or get smashed through a building with a head-on truck collision's worth of psychokinetic force. [60]
- Can a magical girl's costume be altered through them overcoming heartbreak and tragedy, or do only sad things trigger it?
- Basically anything that drastically changes their outlook in life. It can be the death of a parent, or achieving something particularly life-changing (like being Warmaster). It's like a girl with long hair cutting her hair short after breaking up with someone. [61]
- Could the magical girls of your setting kill servants?
Yes. [62]
- Could the abilities of a Vanus extend to reading things about people, like figuring out what kinds of foods a person likes at a glance?
- Yes! That could definitely be a manifestation of their power. [63]
- About how long would a magical girl be incapacitated if they had their neck snapped?
- Until they get healed, pretty much indefinitely. [64]
- What about a regenerator like Sayaka?
- If she was angry enough to be in super serious mode, she'd probably be back up in a couple of seconds, twisting her own head around. [65]
- How do the Officios have huge stacks of Grief Seeds if a meguca pretty much needs to restore after like one witch fight on average, especially considering that there's sometimes more than one meguca fighting a witch?
- That will be explained soon, hahaha! [66]
- What would happen if a girl wished for a Stand?
- "Really? Well...I've never had to grant such a simple wish before. Done. The contract is established. Here is your coupon for unlimited stands, redeem it at any hardware shop of your choosing. Enjoy!" [67]
- Do magical girls get passive abilities based on their classes when they're not transformed?
- 8They do! They're still magical girls. They've got a bit of the toughness and strength even when they're not transformed, too, that carries over. [68]
- Can a magical girl access her inventory when she's not transformed?
- Nope, she can't. [69]
- So technically the garter abominations could become greaves through grieving?
- Yes! [70]
- So a costume can evolve over time by itself? If so, what triggers this?
- Many things, but not something the Magical Girl can control. It can be a recent heartbreak, or a particularly nasty fight against Witches, or another Magical Girl. There's also being blessed by the Blessed Lady herself, or coming back from the dead so many times you're living on borrowed time (like Chiaki). Lots of things that the Magical Girl herself lives through. [71]
- What's the evolution process like? Is it instaneous? Flashy? Painful? Does it permenantly affect the girl's psyche or abilities?
- No, it's something that happens over time. And generally it doesn't hurt. It's like, one time the girl cancels her transformation, then the next time she transforms there'll be a few more skulls added to her costume, that kind of thing. [72]
- What about tacking on decorations like skulls, bones, fangs, scales, feathers, etc.?
- Hmm, well, those are accouterments that naturally add themselves to the Magical Girl's costume the longer her career gets. It all depends on her mood and psyche, it's not something she can control. [73]
- Can a Callidus physically change her uniform?
- I would say so, yes. But not to the extent that it's super different or drastically changed. [74]
- Besides not resurrecting the dead, what other wishes will incubators not grant? Are they the same as a genie's three rules?
- It's a case to case basis, but they really can't make the big sort of wishes. "I wish to be a god" or "I want more wishes" that kind of thing. So yes, I think similar to a genie's three rules. [75]
- Can a meguca reknit her uniform/make it look like something else with like a sewing machine
- She would destroy the sewing machine. [76]
- What's stopping a transformed magical girl from just taking it off and wearing something else?
- Absolutely nothing! But by doing so you'll be leaving yourself without the inherent protection of an actual Magical Girl costume, along with all its benefits and neat tricks. [77]
- What tricks does it offer aside aside from making for better protection?
- It depends on the Magical Girl. Some magical girls have weaponized costumes, or come with weapons already in hand, like a sword on a belt or a mace, that kind of thing. Some can give you a burst of speed in addition to how quick the Magical Girl is already. The point is, sure, it looks a bit frilly and gaudy, and it makes you a big target, but unless you're a Callidus whose main objective is concealment and subterfuge, you go with it. [78]
- So you can technically strip a magical girl out of her costume during combat and she'll be mostly helpless?
- Well, you can try to, but usually the Magical Girl would be busy trying to kill you. Trying to destroy a Magical Girl's costume may work, but it takes a hell of a lot of abuse. If you DO get them out of it, then you have a chance. Maybe. [79]
- Re: magical girl costumes. So if a magical girl that dislikes her costume for whatever reason, such as being inappropriate or too impractical to use, is stuck with it forever with no way of changing it at all?
- Yes. [80]
- What about uniforms?
- Yeah a Magical Girl can wear a uniform over her costume, sure. [81]
- They can't even change their costume with soulgem manipulation?
- Slightly, sure. Callidus are trained to 'suppress' their costumes - i.e. they can be transformed and still not appear to be wearing anything inherently magical, although some traces will remain, like a brooch or a ribbon or glowing panties. But so far as to 'edit' your costume wholesale? Nope. [82]
- So they can't have two costumes?
- No. They can cover up using coats or trenchcoats but you're stuck with your costume. [83]
- Would a Culexus be able to use her mind link abilities to create a telepathic battle network with other magical girls? In light of Vintage's use of telepathy, could other kinds of meguca do that?
- Yes, some gifted Culexus can make a sort of a 'teamspeak' server for squads that can work well with them. Some powerful Magical Girls can do it, too, but it's pretty rare. [84]
- Are there bard type magical girls? Probably Callidus that enhance others by THE POWER OF SONG? (Lyrical or otherwise).
- There are a few! [85]
- A magical girl wishes to bring Tupac back to life. How saved is the music industry? Bonus: What kind of kit does she get, assuming she was contracted by 8-Ball?
- Incubators will never make a contract that includes and/or results in the resurrection of someone long deceased.. [86]
- Regarding when multiple girls witch out together and become one witch, what's the possibility that one meguca could kill it? And what are her chances of living through it?
- Pretty much nil unless she has a golden weapon or is Kharn/Gavrill. She can also play it smart by hiding. [87]
- Now up that to 3 meguca. What're their chances now? I need to know. For uh, science. Yeah, science.
- I'm going to say 10%, maybe 15%. You really need a full squad to stand a decent chance of survival. Unless one of those megucas are super hardcore, then maybe. [88]
- What does being contracted as a Vanus or Venenum give?
- Vanus are usually logokinetic, in the sense that they can do crazy stuff with information. Venenum is basically mad scientist/doctor powers with a lot of healing. [89]
- Can a magical girl explode her own soul gem like Kyoko did in the original PMMM? What determines the strength of the explosion? Definitely!
- Well, no matter what Magical Girl you are it's going to be a big and painful explosion that can take out a building. It usually is affected by the emotions of the Magical Girl at the time. [90]
- If Homucifer went after Pinky, would Pinky actually be in danger?
- Yes, but like Chiaki she needs all the Golden Weapons to do any real, lasting damage. [91]
- Does a magical girl need to be able to reach her soul gem in order to transform?
- It needs to be on hand, yes. [92]
- So a meguca must have the soul gem touching her hands to transform?
- Having it on her person is a good idea too. [93]
- If licking a soulgem causes you to orgasm. And if Chiakis soulgem is now linked to Walpurgisnacht. Does that mean that if someone licks Chiakis soulgem, WN has an orgasm?
- That's direct stimulation, so no, it doesn't really work that way! [94]
- Do witches interact with one another at all? Do they battle for territory in the shadows at all, or maybe form some kind of wolfpack if the right things happen?
- Sometimes they battle for territory, but when there are Witches who know each other in their previous Magical Girl forms, they tend to cluster together and share barriers. Sometimes they even merge into one. They also sometimes move in groups of three, which is bad news for anyone suddenly stuck in a Barrier and trying to fight their way out. [95]
- Can megucas cause themselves to witch out? If so, what would happen if multiple girls did that next to each other at the same time?
- Witching out isn't quite a voluntary thing, but it's kind of like how a suicide pact will go. There are certain substances and things you can do to trigger a self-witch out. If multiple witches manifest all at the same time, it can cause an amalgamation that may be tougher to put down than a single witch, and this'll necessitate multiple squads being rolled out to address it. [96]
- Isn't Chiaki's magic an insta-win? Just stop time and shot their soul gems. How many megucas could actually kill Chiaki with no-holds fight?
- There's always a limit to time stop. Sure, you can do that, but it takes a lot out of someone, and for Chiaki the feedback can be enough to distract her for a few seconds. Seconds that can get her killed. [97]
- What's the average lifespan of a culexus?
- Three years! [98]
- What are the 5 locations of the WPN witches? There's Australia and also Siberia for the actual Waluigi. What about the other 4?
- Dimunsis Australia, New York, Brazil, Japan, Finlaaaaand [99]
- Are Eversors normally able to regenerate their eyes, eardrums, and fingernails?
- They shunt magical power to regenerate damaged vision, damaged hearing, etc. Replacing lost things require a hell of a lot more concentration and energy, especially when you're not geared towards it like Sayaka is. But yes, they can do that. [100]
- If a magical girl changes to another class, do they gain any of those class's abilities, like Eversor regeneration?
- Not really. Well, maybe they could learn tricks similar to regeneration, but it'll still be taxing. [101]
- Are there any significant drawbacks to a magical girl staying in costume pretty much all the time, never untransforming except to transform back right away?
- You're always on edge, all the time, which doesn't help with someone who's paranoid or susceptible to paranoia. It's like always drinking coffee - you first get a boost, then you get immune to it, and when you finally get out of it it's nausea and headaches and withdrawal. [102]
- How do magical girls deal with menstruation?
- The....usual way? Some of the Venenum prescribe pills to help lessen the cramps during a particular mission. [103]
- How long could another person survive if they were trapped inside Chiaki's shield?
- They'll survive for a while, but the question is, will they still be sane when they get out? [104]
- Can a meguca use their willpower to stave off witching out for a while?
- They definitely can! Some meguca are that strong willed, through training and meditation! [105]
- If a magical girl loses her body but her soul gem is preserved, would a body reconstruction be possible? No robots.
- Of course! It'll take an awful amount of resources to do so, though. [106]
- Do magical girls have/able to get allergies? Well, maybe?
- You can have a pre-existing allergy that you can have taken out by the Venenum, of course. And sometimes, after a very strenuous mission, the magical girl's body can be fatigued to the point that they get feverish or sniffly. [107]
- Are there any megucas that don't really have a transformation? As in, their meguca outfit is minimal and is mostly their daily attire? And do they have to be dress-y and frilly?
- Yes. Some Magical Girls find it easy to 'modify' their costumes to their own tastes. These end up invariably as Callidus. [108]
- What happens when a meguca reaches the end of a witches barrier? Is there a force field of some sort? Does it loop around like it's a large sphere? Or is it like in vidya where there's a long, flat texture with no collision mesh and you fall into an endless black abyss?
- It depends on the barrier, mostly! Those scenarios apply though! [109]
- Is the Shield the source of Chiaki/Homura's power? Or do you view it as a means to ease and facilitate abilities that she can naturally do herself? IE; if we get gud enuff, will we be able to time stop on our own?
- The Shield connects Chiaki to the rest of the Homuras, albeit in a fragmented way. Chiaki can time stop on her own, but with things are, it's not something she can rely on too much. She has to be clever with what she's got. [110]
- Interesting. So, since a fleshbag MG is essentially a zombie animated by magic, could a cybernetic MG animate her body in a similar fashion, to a degree beyond what a cybernetic human could? And if so, could more advanced bodily magic (Like regeneration in fleshbags) be creatively applied?
- No, there are inherent limitations to even a cybernetic MG. Maybe overclocking for a brief period, like AEGIS'...overload mode or something (I don't remember what it is). And body magic, well, I'm not saying it's possible, but it's like...taking illegal steroids. It's risky and dangerous and while you may be able to fight better and kill faster, you don't know if you can 'snap back' into it your regular shape, or you stay jacked up like a freak beast and you can't fit through doorways anymore. Regen and maybe bulking yourself up for an attack that'll allow you to cut through an entire continent (something Sayaka and Kharn can do) may be possible, but it takes an awful lot of magic that it's not worth the investment or danger. [111]
- Is it possible for a girl to use magic when not in her uniform?
- For self-defense, yes. A temporary boost of speed, or punching power, or summon their magical weapon for parrying/stabbing. [112]
- If a magical girl replaced most or all of their body with cybernetic implants and robot parts, would that make them weaker if they were very strong to begin with? Would it cut off their growth potential?
- Not really? Consider the human body and the robot body as, well, bodies for the Magical Girl's Soul Gem to control. Both of them have disadvantages and advantages. A robot Magical Girl may be more durable and versatile but it definitely has the limitations of a machine (parts running down, needing replacement, charge, and so on). A Magical Girl can continue to grow to be a better fighter in either body, just that it's a drastically different kind of fighting and getting good. [113]
- So they could restore the knees of someone from a different Officio, but not Kyouko's EYE?!
- Kyuubey himself personally tried. There was something strange going on with Kyouko's injury. It's a bit of a spoiler, but suffice to say it's a part of the Golden Weapons' unpredictability when it comes to damaging Magical Girls. They're fragments of an insane goddess, after all! [114]
- Wasn't Kyoko's eye pre-Masamune though? I thought it was said it was just a normal katana wound that wouldn't heal?
- Hahaha, now I feel silly! Yes, after checking, it was indeed a normal katana that took Kyoko's eye out! I would say then that Kirika really put a lot of killing intent into that cut. She wanted to really and honestly murder Kyoko right then and there (even though it was an exhibition match) and Kirika was the sort of Eversor to go full LIVE WEAPONS whenever she fought. In this particular instance, it made that particular cut bite hard enough that no matter what even Kyuubey did, it wouldn't just 'heal' right. [115]
- If enchanted weapon wounds take a shitton of magic to heal, what about Midori? Didn't she get shot in the knees by the GDeagle?
- Yes, and the Venenum at the Ninth healed her up well and good. [116]
- Does Pinky eat wandering ghosts too?
- No, but she does play and tease with the ghosts inside the Golden Weapons. Especially Risa, who she tortures with Mobius strips a whole lot. [117]
- Are there any benefits to being a specific meguca class, or is purely for classification?
- Specialization. For Culexus it's not turning into fertilizer after a year or so. [118]
- Where is a girl's inventory? Chiaki's is just slide into back of shield, but what about everyone else?
- It can be in different places. Could be a pocket in their costume, or somewhere behind them, just a place out of sight. [119]
- Can Braids, Dildos, and Murderface interact with each other at all? Or are they confined to their own separate mirror things?
- Well, they can, they just can't interact with Chiaki herself besides talking to her and stuff! [120]
- Culexus just become Culexus, right? No choosing? Nope!
- Once an Incubator knows you're a Culexus there's only just one way to go. [121]
- Do megucas feel the weight of the items in their inventory?
- Generally, no. It's like Hammerspace for them, but there is a caveat, in that everyone's inventory has a different capacity. Usually it only has their Magical Weapon and maybe a few personal effects. Chiaki's is unique in that she has two. [122]
- If a girl wishes for something that is "below" her potential, will she lower her potential, or will the wish be expanded to reflect her potential?
- Let me see if I understand this question correctly. Are you asking that if, for example, a girl wishes to be 'just good at baking cake' instead of 'being the best at baking cake', then she'll be VERY competent at making cake but not exactly the best, instead of being the best right out because of her potential to be the best?
- I would say that it really depends on the Incubator, to be honest. But a good rule of thumb is that Incubators are generally very good at interpreting wishes. At the end of the day, it's what the Magical Girl wants that is paramount ( within reason) and that's what would be granted. However, that doesn't lock the Magical Girl at that level, as she can be the best at making cakes if she trains hard enough. [123]
- >If a girl wishes for something that is "below" her potential, will she lower her potential, or will the wish be expanded to reflect her potential? // I think anon means like - if someone have Madoka-tier karma and just asks for a really big cake, do they just get that cake or something more awesomer?
- Well...they get that cake, but the Incubator may ask them 'Are you REALLY sure' and all that rot. If the girl goes through it it, she'll have a big cake, and perhaps turn out to be a really powerful Magical Girl with cake-related powers. [124]
- How desperate does a girl have to be to get asked for a wish?
- Get asked for a wish? I'm not so sure I follow. Do you mean like, they get approached by an Incubator and be offered a wish? [125]
- So does how a girl witch out determine how she behaves to a large extent? Like if one burned her gem out with too much magic, would she be less aggressive than one that got too much suffering? Is one kind more likely to hunt people, or to just hide in a familiar place and eat intruders?
- I think all those are good assumptions. How a girl witches out affects how her Witch behaves - her state of mind at the time, or the reason why. If for example a girl witches out because she was jealous of a couple, then her Witch would target couples and so on. [126]
- Is it possible to force a girl to make a contract, or will Incubators not make contracts with girls under duress?
- There's a general agreement that no Incubator will force a girl to contract under duress. [127]
- If a meguca with extremely high potential (ie Madoka) wishes for more wishes, what happens?
- Are Magical Girls' maximum power determined by their wish? Or can a relatively weak MG train hard enough to overcome their initial weakness?
- A Magical Girl's maximum power is dictated by their contract, yes, and how they are at the time. Basically it's like being born with talent. But any Eversor can be just as brutal and hardcore as Kharn if they really go at it - just that Kharn will also be training the fuck out of herself at the same time, too. [129]
- Besides the Culexus, how is the category of a magical girl chosen anyways? If it's on the weapon they get, how would they choose whether or not to be a Callidus? What if they have no weapon? Can they still be an Eversor or Vindicare?
- The Incubator generally decides what kind of rank they're going into, and they usually can tell with the Soul Gem they make. They CAN choose to be a Callidus after basic training, provided they pass the trials for it and the Incubator/Warmaster approves. If they have no weapon, one will be provided. And yes, they can be an Eversor or Vindicare if they want. [130]
- So its established that it's possible to (rarely) change back to MG from being a witch. Is it possible to change a witch who grew from a familiar into a human? How fucked up would that human be?
- Well, maybe the real powerful ones could? That'd be frightening enough. [131]
- We've heard about Alpha witches, but what other ranks are there?
- There are also Omega Class witches! [132]
- On a scale of 1 to "every magical girl alive tries to witch themselves out at once" how bad would it be if Pinky and Homucifer decided to hook up?
- It goes beyond that. Everything dies, people go insane, a new Eye of Terror is born, and the MM X MM after dark serial is cancelled. Just dreadful. [133]
- Does Walpurgisnacht happen every year?
- No, but there's always a chance it could. That's why prognosticators are very highly valued. [134]
- So what if a girl gets contracted and her wish is to be a guy?
- I've answered this question before, hahaha! Anyway, she turns inti a guy, but then turns back into a girl whenever she transforms. [135]
- "RE: Do the four entities in the Blessed Lady religion...." By those 4, does that mean that The Transcendent One is literally 40k Malal?
- Hahaha, that's actually possible! [136]
- what if there were few witches that are aware?
- how fucked are megucas then? Very, very fucked. [137]
- We've seen examples where megucas can't regenerate from certain wounds (i.e. Kyouko's eye). What are some (non-spoiler) ways such wounds can be caused?
- A wound from a particular strong Witch. Walpurgisnacht-level witches give you injuries that are very hard to regenerate or recover. A wound inflicted by a dying Magical Girl, made with her last remaining magic (and a lot of hate. It's rare for this to take, though). Enchanted weaponry. Magical diseases and poisons (also still rare). The Magical Girl can receive a lot of abuse and recover, but there ARE ways to put them down permanently. [138]
- If a blind girl wished to see, what kind of meguca would she become?
- The ultimate voyeur [139]
- If a contracted girl is an amputee prior to her contract and it being restored isn't relevant to her wish does it get restored along with the general magical girl health plan? (Similar to how series-homu fixes her eyes i episode 10)
- It generally does, yes. When you sign up, all effort is undertaken to make sure you're a 100% functional magical girl. [140]
- How vulnerable are MGNQ megucas to disease?
- They're pretty hardy. I mean, if you push them too hard they'll get colds or fevers or if you feed them too much chocolate they'll have pimples. But they're basically protected against degenerative diseases. Now, magical diseases, that's different. Sabrina Blackburn's decomposing thing works against them, and there's a disease that turns you into a lesbian that has a 1000% mortality rate. [141]
- where did the first witch came from?
- Spoiler, sorry! [142]
- Are there any megucas that contracted for the sake of vengeance?
- Quite a few. Most of them witches out in a month. [143]
- Are there any magical girls that are Jammers? being able to disrupt coms, magically pulsed or electronic signals would be something pretty useful I'd think.
- I would say Culexus would be able to do that just fine. Maybe a few select Vanus whose specialization is electronic information. [144]
- So Van us are miserable watch-wearing dildos by nature?
- Yes. [145]
- Magical girls can grow the magic D, right? Have any of the named characters done it? ie. Kyoko using it to satisfy Sayaka's bi urges, Kharn using it to fuck straight girls...
- Yes. Maybe. Yes. [146]
- WAIT! seriously? that kind of magic is innate to all megucas in this realm?
- It's not innate. There's...some enterprising Venenum have developed illicit medication to give megucas that kind of thing for a night or so. The patent is currently owned by a shady back-alley pharmaceutical outfit called Nakajima Enterprises Ltd. It's rumored that it's in contact with the Thirteenth for mass-production. [147]
- We know that Callidus tend to have some kind of illusion based abilities. What kind of powers are typical for a Vanus?
- Eleanor is a good example of a textbook Vanus. Her 'Vanus' trance isn't an aberration - other instances and variants of it exist. Logokines like John Grammaticus exist who are in the Vanus rank. [148]
- Given that Incubators have demonstrated a great degree of control over Soul Gems (force them to Witch Out, control the meguca directly, etc.), why don't Incubators simply destroy severe cases of rogue megucas in such a fashion?
- Some of them (including the Seventh, and recently, Kyuubey) have agreed not to include that particular part of the contract. There are also ways to counteract an Incubator's control - if you're willing to suffer having your Soul Gem being tampered with. You just need to know the right people. [149]
- Are AT Fields good approximations for how powerful the Culexus Barriers of Ninth can be [Or I guess were, in this case]?
- Yes, they are very good approximations! [150]
- Ok, we know the boy question now, but what happens if a girl wishes to be another girl? "I wish I could be Mami Tomoe" or something? Or what if they wish to be someone fictitious, like 'I wish I could be Murder Mayumi"?
- They get lectured about it. At the worst they'll be a Callidus. If they're really set on it, they'll get a powerset similar to that person they like, but established in meguca reality. [151]
- Does a potential meguca ever wish too large? QB was after Madoka because of her immense potential; if another girl tried to make her same wish, would it work? Or would the Incubator ask her to ask for something smaller?
- Incubators always modify wish interpretation slightly when confronted with that kind of wish. But yes, if it's too huge, they'll say:
- [152]
- So, a random thought, what if a girl wished to be a boy? I mean, I assume an incubator wouldn't grant that wish, but hypothetically, what if they did?
- I already answered this a long time ago. I think it's asked twice now, even here.
- Basically, when a magical girl wishes to be a boy, they become a boy. But when they transform, they become a Magical Girl. [153]
- Which continent has the highest witch population?
- Australia. (You had to ask?) [154]
- Interesting! Why does Australia have the most witches? Doesn't Africa have a much higher levels of despair from all the shitty things happening there, and fewer MGs from not having a native Offico?
- That's a spoiler for me to answer, sorry! [155]
- Can a Incubator refuse to grant a wish?
Of course! [156]
- If Chiaki's witch is brutal what is Midori's witch like? Pitable? Fat?
- Hmm...that's possible, but I think there's an inverse law about that. Like, how cute a character is factors in how horrifying and disturbing they are. [157]
- Did Malal ever have a chance to be pulled out of Chiaki's barrier?
- Yes, but she'd fade away after a couple of minutes. [158]
- How many Vindicares can level a town with magic?
- Quite a handful! But again, no Incubator is going to allow that kind of thing from happening without his permission. [159]
- How many vindicated shot fireballs, lasers, and/or nanoha-ish beams of destruction?
- Quite a lot! But again, they're trained not to use them unless it's a last resort. [160]
- Also, Malal showed with her Rose Bow that it might not always be the best idea to rely on your magical weapon...
- Pretty much, yes! [161]
- Homura/Chiaki uses mostly non-magical firearms, but what about the other vindicares? Do they have their own magical weapons or do they use normal ones?
- They have their own magical weapons, but they're often used as a last resort if non-magical firearms are available. [162]
- Could Sayaka regenerate fast enough to counteract drowning? Or does that just kick her into Mermaid Mode quicker?
- She bitches at Oxygen to stay in her lungs and keep her conscious. [163]
- We've seen Ahriman and Kharn go full Tzeench and Khorne respectively, and Midori was just submitted to a Slaaneshi assault. Got any fun ideas for Nurgletiem?
- Magical girl cannibal cancer zombies that move at magical girl speed [164]
- If a Culexus mindlinks with a non-Culexus, would the non-Culexus get sick?
- Unless they're not wearing their Anima Speculum at the time and set to acceptable levels, yes, the non-Culexus would be really nauseous. [165]
- Do girls stop aging after contracting?
- The aging process slows down hardcore for some girls. [166]
- Do all Culexuses have telekinesis? What's the conceivable upper limit on the power/range of said telekinesis?
- Some of them do, but like Force users, the range varies from Culexus to Culexus. [167]
- If a magical girl made a wish to turn a boy into a girl and that boy-turned-girl built enough karmic-imbalance-whateverawhos (possibly from the suffering from former girl) would the second girl possibly become contract-eligible down the line?
- Maybe? I think it's possible. I never thought about this kind of thing! [168]
- What's the MAXIMUM range of Kyouko's Spear Extension? Is it theoretically long as fuck ala Mugen Punch if Kyouko has the magic reserves to extend it that far?
- Theoretically it could be that range if she's angry enough! [169]
- During waluiginight the officios fought the witch forms of the primary cast members, and Yuma and co were tasked with offing wafflehouse night. Instead of upside-down clockthing we got Kharn going full Khorne. But if Kharn lives in the upper levels of siberia, down below, who was phone?
- It is a mystery. (It'll be answered in Malal's side of Waluiginight!) [170]
- What class would best be able to provide a psychic "mission control" for a team of magical girls?
- Culexus. [171]
- What are Chiaki and Midori's Witches? Is there a chance they can face themselves due to the content in the Eleanor Write-ups?
- Hahaha! [172]
- While a magical girl recovering from witching out almost never happens, it has happened before (like with Kharn). What circumstances can cause it to occur, and what maximizes a meguca's chances?
- When she herself is already half a Witch in the first place! [173]
- What would happen to Chiaki if Risa popped in for a visit and got Braids and Dildos drunk?
- Nothing. If there's anything Chiaki can boast with her former selves, it's being more alcohol tolerant than all of them. [174]
- Dildos and Braids bring muh operating & timestuff to the party, but what does ++Murderface++ help Chiaki with?
- Corruption control. Not in the way that she can stop or absorb it, but allow Chiaki to use them to her advantage. [175]
- Could Chiaki fit Cherno Alpha into the shield? Is Cherno Alpha ALREADY in the shield?!
- Hahaha! [176]
- Do girls have access to their inventory while untransformed? Or is that tied to their powerset?
- Yes, they're able to. Some girls have bigger inventories than others. [177]
- In saku's writeup Eleanor fought her witch. How's this possible?
- MGNQ Australia is horrible like that. Also, Eleanor is clearly a bad person who deserved it! Hahaha! [178]
- How powerful would a witch have to be to manifest in the physical world? Like the one in Mamis apartment?
- Quite powerful, really. A witch that's eaten a lot of people already, for sure [179]
- how chaotic would things be if larro's take on magical girl couples having kids would be implemented?
- Ver chaotic! But the incubators would push for birth control soon enough. [180]
- So how limited are Callidus shapeshifting powers? Would one totally dedicated to altering herself be able to turn into some kind of battle form kind of thing where she's got some bulletproof carapace and blades for arms? Or are they limited to the merely human?
- I think those are possible, just that they use too much magic to be practical. I don't discount it as a possibility though! [181]
- So theoretically a Callidus could become a ninja turtle is what you're saying?
- Theoretically, but also a vey dangerous kind of transformation. [182]
- What are the usual countermeasures for Callidus?
- Having a counter-Callidus in your party. [183]
- Chiaki and Girl A have shown themselves capable of time stop, but are they capable of clock-up and clock-down?
- Do note that Homura has access to these in various official games. Those are powers that Chiaki will have to unlock from Dildoes and Braids, respectively. [184]
- Are Eversors expected to be more all-around durable than Vindicares, Callidus & Culexus? And on the other end, could those other 3's bodies be considered only barely more durable than a regular human disregarding the whole soul gem and regeneration thing?
- Yes, Eversors are built tough. And the other ranks' bodies are still a sight more durable than uncontracted humans. They can still take a bit of abuse, but not as much as Eversors. [185]
- Can a magical girl graft her body parts to a non-magical body? In an emergency, can do this with their head and get out of dodge? I have a feeling this would be in the realm of wish magic instead of standard though.
- I don't think so. Perhaps someone from the Fourth could do it, but then again their bodies have pretty much been replaced with ironforms. [186]
- Are there other ways of becoming using magic, besides contracting and becoming a magical girl?
- Getting one of the Golden Weapons. [187]
- I feel like Callidus are less seen than Vindicares and Eversors. What kind of powers do they usually have, and are they rarer than the other two?
- Callidus are like their 40K counterparts, in that they're perfect for subterfuge and espionage. The general term are 'spies' or 'shapeshifters', so their powerset would branch off from that. And not only are they rarer, but they're also more expensive to train. [188]
- Is there a supernatural community? You know, like a proper authority that governs vampires, werewolves, and other creatures.
- I wouldn't say so, no. [189]
- Do Magical Girls have to transform to gain access to their abilities?
- They do, yes! Most never really get out of their transformations though. Also if a magical girl is good enough, she can access a barebones version of her abilities withou transforming. [190]
- There are active witches out there? What happens if the girls can't stop one or it gets away? Does it just kinda wander around on its own? Or is that pretty much always worst case when one slips the net?
- There are, and usually other squads are notified it if gets away or kills the squad sent to kill it. [191]
- Could a girl wish to become a boy? Or would that just kind of annoy/break the Incubator?
- I've answered this question before. A girl can wish to be a boy, and she'll turn into one, but when she transforms into a Magical Girl she'll turn back into a girl. [192]
- Has Wendy Cooldown achieved what Leonardo Di Caprio could (or not) during Inception? That is, planting a false memory on her victim while he/she is sleeping.
- I would say so. That's in the purview of her abilities. [193]
- In Psycho-Pass, the Sybil System could measure how deranged was the psyche of any person. This measurement could be made at any given moment, using the huge computing power of the Sybil System. Is there any device that resembles the Sybil System in MGNQ, capable of measuring the hue of a soul gem?
- I would say so. The Thirteenth helped develop scanners for that, integrating them in Culexus' Anima Speculum helmets. Each hospital wing of an Officio should have one too. And an incubator can remotely keep track of someone's soul gem purity. [194]
- What would happen if a girl wished to be able to grant wishes?
- Outright refusal, stone cold silence, or: thatsnothowitworksyoulittleshit.jpg [195]
- What kind of wish do you have to make to become a specific class of magical girl?
- It's not really the kind of wish you have to make to become a specific class (unless that's your real aim) but the Incubator making the contract doesn't know what Magical Girl the contractee becomes until the Soul Gem is crystallized. He just establishes the contract, let it drain as much as it needs from his energy reserves at the time to crystallize, and it's when the Soul Gem is already there that he knows what kind of magical girl she'll be. [196]
- But Sayaka is always pulling her 'sword' out of a cake...
- She can pull swords out of mostly anything, as long as her hand is hidden [197]
- Sayaka can pull swords out of cakes. Do any other megucas have odd tricks like this?
- Mami has something similar with her rifles. Kharn can make Skulltaker grow larger temporarily. Chiaki can spawn 'reloads' and steal girls' underwear while they're still wearing it. I'm sure the other writeup girls have their own neat tricks, though. [198]
- Can all Culexus do memory modification?
- Not all of them. Some don't have the fine pin-point acuity or the fortitude to do it (think of it like neurosurgery with your eyes closed and in a closed room where a thousand TVs on a thousand channels are on at the same time in full volume). It takes a special kind of Callidus and training to do so. [199]
- What abilities are inherent to all eversors?
- Increased regeneration, increased speed, iron stamina, the ability to never get fat no matter what you eat, +++lewd. [200]
- What's inherent to vindicares?
Sharp eyesight, dead-eye aiming, impeccable knowledge of their own selected firearm/group of firearms, increased stamina for relocation/gunfights, not a whole lot of regen but just a bit. [201]
- What's inherent to the others?
- Culexus have super mind powers and low everything else (they have to manually increase strength/physical stamina/etc). Vanus are standard magical girls (standard on regen, stamina, etc) but generally are made for absorbing/regurgitating information. Venenum is a special case where you have a decent spread of stats but most of your stuff goes into either medicine or related things. [202]
- And callidus?
- Oh, I forgot about them! Callidus start out with high stamina, medium melee, low shooty and medium speed. A few steps below Eversors in physical capability, definitely above Vindicares, and has that shapeshifting thing going. + Healthy [203]
- And Maerorus?
- EX all stats, SUPER LOW SAN. [204]
- Can a vampire or werewolf become a magical girl and vise versa?
- More like a magical girl can wish to be either of those two! [205]
- Speaking of vampires, does the supernatural exist in MGNQ?
- It does! Ghosts, vampires, demons. Monstergirls somewhat, but they're all in the Sixth. [206]
- In TTS, it's common practice to kill a girl's body if they're on the verge of having a totally corrupted soul gem, to disconnect the body and Soul Gem so hopefully they'll be able to retreat to a place with therapists and large amounts of grief cubes. Is this also standard practice for Officios?
- I think doing that in MGNQ would trigger witching out. Generally the best countermeasure for that is an emergency application of a Grief Seed if one's handy. If not, Soul Gem destruction would have to suffice. [207]
- Are humans capable of using magic without incubator/Godoka intervention? If so, how do they use it? Harry Potter or X-men style 'specials'? Hermetic style occultists hording ancient secrets? Or do they just occasionally FEEL THE WARP OVERTAKING THEM?!
- Not really, but the Golden Weapons are a shortcut to using magic even without a contract. [208]
