===Kyubey Flashback===
Yuma is scouted by Kyoko Sakura as a potential contract 23 months prior to the starting point of the story. Despite still being very young, she is quite smart and quick to pick up on things. She even asks Kyubey rare questions such as why she is chosen and what becoming a magical girl means for her life.

Blaming herself fr her parents' abusive behavior, she refuses Kyubey's offer of having one of them assassinated to improve her situation at home and accepts his magical girl contract.

<spoiler show="Full Chapter Summary" hide="Hide Full Summary">In a flashback episode featuring Kyubey 23 months before the quest start, Yuma is still very young, barely above elementary school. She is scouted as a potential contract by Kyoko Sakura, who thinks that she needs the contract to escape her abusive family and can turn into a capable magical girl. When Kyoko once asked her if she wanted to be a magical girl, Yuma answered that she wants to be the kind that helps people make their dreams come true.

One day while feeding ducks in a park, Yuma is approached by an Incubator. She pets the strange cat, asking for it's name, staring in shock for a full minute as it actually replies, introducing itself as Kyubey. He tells her that Kyoko told him about her and that she could be a magical girl if she so desires.

When she asks why her of all people, a question rarely asked, the Incubator explains that Kyoko told him about her situation at home, and that the red head wants her to be somewhere safer. She cries and says that her parents are not bad before asking about becoming a magical girl. Kyubey responds that she forms an agreement with him and can have one wish fulfilled.

Yuma then asks what happens if she refuses the offer and about the danger of fighting monsters. The Incubator replies that magical girls are trained for battle and only sent out when they are ready, and that he will help her improve her situation nonetheless if she doesn't form a contract. She asks if Kyubey will kill her parents if she refuses, and he replies that it would be the easiest way, but that only one of her choice would be murdered, professionally.

The girl says that she doesn't want either one to die, blaming herself for their violent behavior. She asks if magical girls can still die and Kyubey explains that they can and will, and might even become the monsters they fight, but are still saving people in the process. He tells her that she should refuse if she is unsure, but Yuma still decides to become a magical girl under his employ.

Kyoko offers to talk to her father to stop his abuse, but Yuma firmly refuses, assuring that her mind is made up. She makes her wish, a simple one that is still not easy to fulfill for the Incubator, and collapses from the pain of having her soul crystallized as the emerald gem forms in front of her. Kyubey announces her rank to be Culexus before falling asleep on the spot while Kyoko takes the unconscious girl to the Officio.</spoiler>

===MAXIMUM CHRISTMAS===
In a flashback taking place on Christmas one year prior to the quest starting point, Kyoko plans a Secret Santa event and Christmas dinner, but the Officio's leading members cancel it in favor of preparing for the appearance of Walpurgisnacht one month later.

Kyoko barges into Yuma's room and makes her tag along on her shopping trip, claiming Maximum Christmas spirit. The Culexus drives them to the mall and helps pick out and buy presents, being forced into a reindeer costume pajama halfway through.

Yuma chooses the cake for Sayaka, discovers a skull servitor personal assistant for Kharn, chooses a tea set and tea for Mami and gets instructed on buying pineapple salad for Malal while Kyoko buys some other presents. They meet up in a pet shop and buy a present for Kyubey before returning to the Officio where they hand out everything. Before Kyoko leaves to end the day with Sayaka, she gives Yuma a pet tortoise as her Christmas present.

<spoiler show="Full Chapter Summary" hide="Hide Full Summary">In a flashback taking place on Christmas a year before the quest's starting point, Kyoko bursts through the ceiling of Yuma's room after sending a pulse about opening her door. Yuma shrieks in shock and confusion and scolds the red haired Eversor about setting a more respectable example while cleaning up the dust and debris.

While Kyoko claims to just get into the holiday spirit, Yuma asks why she is spending Christmas morning in her room instead of being with somebody else, hinting at Sayaka. Kyoko sneaks up from behind, lifts Yuma up and spins her around for getting cocky but lets her down again when the Culexus starts getting sick.

She then explains that her friends canceled this year's secret Santa, that she intends to get everyone presents herself and that she wants Yuma's help. The Culexus reminds her that this year's Walpurgisnacht is predicted to be much stronger than the last and suggests taking it easy on Christmas.

Kyoko smacks her helmet, sending Yuma falling on her bed, and explains that the approaching Walpurgisnacht gives them even more reasons to celebrate Christmas as to take everyone's mind off of the looming danger for a while. Yuma asks her not to hit her since the training Animus Speculum is not very resilient, and agrees to help get presents for everyone.

Taking a look at Yuma's room, Kyoko discovers that she is a he fan of the Miracle Midori series and tells her not to let it become her entire image, promising not to tell anyone about it herself. When Yuma asks where they should start their gift shopping, Kyoko brings forth The List from her hat, but puts it away again before Yuma can take a look.

Yuma notes down Sayaka, Mami, Murderface, Kharn and Malal and suggests starting at Mitakihara Central Mall. While she puts on the rest of her suit, Kyoko tells her that she will make Yuma Equerry if she ever happens to become Warmaster since she is so dependable.

They depart to the Mall with Yuma driving the Warmaster's armored jeep, explaining how she always wanted to drive it and can't pass up the chance to use it during a mission from her direct superior since Malal usually doesn't allow anyone to drive the marauder. She asks Kyoko if the mission is sanctioned, who replies that she told Kharn and Kyubey to wait for her awesome gifts, which is sanctioned enough for Yuma.

The pair enters the huge high class mall, ignoring the stares at their costumes, and decide to start looking for Sayaka's gift first. After thinking for a while, and imagining her significant other in fancy underwear, which Yuma picks up and teases her about, Kyoko decides to get both panties and a strawberry cake. Yuma offers to buy the cake while Kyoko looks for her own dessert and exchanges phone numbers to keep in contact should she find a suitable gift for one of the others on the way.

She buys a strawberry cream cake with custom dedication, has the store write “Merry Christmas Sayaka-chan <3 <3 <3”. On the way she finds a store selling personal digital assistants in skull casings that hover around and take dictations and sends a text to Kyoko, asking if she should buy one for the Warmaster, to which Kyoko replies positive.

Soon after she finds Kyoko leaning against a wall and catching her breath. She wonders if her senior is already tired before finishing eve half of her list and asks which present to look for next. Kyoko mentions that she noticed Mami seemingly being in need of new bras, but agrees with Yuma that buying any without having the actual measurements would be awkward, especially with Mami being sensitive about her bust.

Yuma suggests a tea related gift, and Kyoko decides to get her a tea set and a bag of premium tea. Admitting that she doesn't know anything about tea, she agrees to Yuma's suggestion of splitting up again to gather the other gifts while Yuma buys the items for Mami. She moves out to stash the gifts for Sayaka and Kharn in the car before heading to the tea shop.

Thinking about Murderface's gift, her mind wanders off to Mami and Oriko. Yuma pulses a message for her to focus, and Kyoko takes revenge by sending out lewd imaginations of Mami, cowing her into silence.

Yuma chooses a gift for Mami, which almost drains her money entirely, and thinks about what to buy her Rank Leader. Just as she is about to guess, Malal calls and tells her to buy some pineapple salad. Later Kyoko calls to ask about her progress and suggests meeting at the pet store to buy a gift for Kyubey, both considering catnip a valid choice for the feline alien.

In front of the store, Kyoko hands the young Culexus her gift and insists that she uses it immediately. Yielding to the Eversor's persistence, Yuma puts her brand new reindeer one piece pajama on over her suit, mentioning how this is the worst Christmas ever in a droopy pose. Kyoko corrects her that this is the most MAXIMUM Christmas ever!

While waiting for the shopkeeper, Yuma is messed around with by a crocodile. As a girl with a striking resemblance to Kyoko steps out from the back of the shop, casually mentioning that the crocodile is just being friendly, Yuma mentions something about science fiction and Kyoko loosing her virginity, earning a confused look from her senior.

Kyoko enthusiastically greets the shopkeeper, who joins in on the Maximum Christmas mood by perfectly imitating the red head's pose and speech pattern, startling Yuma with their combined annoying energy who wonders if this is what going insane feels like. The shopkeeper only removes the crocodile from Yuma's leg after Kyoko finishes her shopping, a CatMaster 3000 and three pounds of catnip.

On the way to the car, Yuma thanks Kyoko for taking her along, stating that she enjoyed the day a lot. Kyoko pulls her into a hug and, after a moment, explains that she is glad somebody else understands what she wants to do, making sure everyone remembers what is important. Yuma assures her that they will not forget and suggests taking off. Kyoko tells her to get the Marauder while she checks something last minute.

Yuma heads off to get the car and picks Kyoko up after a short while and drives back to the Officio. She requests help from the other Culexus, who bring a trolley and assist in unloading the car before returning to their quarters since their combined aura would ruin the deliveries.

Kyoko decides to start giving out presents with Kyubey and pulls the cart toward his office with Yuma pushing from behind. The Culexus voices her concern about barging into the Incubator's office without prior notice, but Kyoko assures she will take responsibility and kicks the door open. Inside are Malal, Kharn and Mami, startled by the loud noise. Mami asks what she is doing, but is cut off by Malal demanding an explanation for Yuma's appearance while Kharn laughs at the idea of making the reindeer getup the new Animus Speculum model.

While Yuma winces at Malal's anger, Kyoko tells the Rank Leader that she is not making fun of the Culexus, wraps an arm around her and explains that they are getting into Christmas spirit before pointing at her stash of gifts. Mami speaks up, but Kyoko cuts her off and demands not to talk about Walpurgisnacht and only allows Maximum Christmas. Kharn understands her excitement but asks her to be more quiet, pointing at the sleeping Incubator, exhausted from tracking Walpurgisnacht over a long time.

Kyoko asks Yuma to unload Kyubey's gifts next to his desk and hands out the other presents. Mami and Malal thank her while Kharn doubtfully unwraps her gift, expecting a joke. On seeing the servitor skull, she bursts out in excitement, stating that she always wanted something like this and all but tackles Yuma into a hug, thanking her and Kyoko.

Kyubey wakes from the commotion, and promptly jumps on the box containing the CatMaster 3000, rolling around on top of the bag full of catnip. While Malal, Kharn and Mami take pictures of this, Kyoko asks the blonde Vindicare where Sayaka and Murderface are before departing with Yuma, who is puzzled by Kyubey's reaction to the herbs.

On reaching Murderface's quarters, Kyoko tells Yuma that she will do this one on her own, and Yuma readily agrees, closing the door behind her senior. She hears something akin to shouting, but once Kyoko returns, she explains that it was only her laughing and that Murderface didn't do anything to her.

Yuma notes that there is only Sayaka's gift left, but Kyoko explains that there is another one and pulls a shoe box from the trolley. She takes out a round object and hands it to Yuma, explaining the confused girl that it is a tortoise. The young girl is moved to tears and promises to take good care of the animal and to spread some Maximum Christmas to the other Culexus herself. They say goodbye and Yuma departs to her Rank's living area.</spoiler>

BIO: A young Culexus that was contracted a few years ago with the help of Sakura Kyouko, and the sole survivor of her squad after the Walpurgis Night massacre last year. A lot of people lost a lot when Rank Leader Malal died, Omegon more than most all of them. She’s tough, though, and she pushes herself really hard to fill the void the Rank Leader left behind. Way harder than she should. It probably doesn’t help that people are always comparing them.
ABILITY: Standard Culexus ability – anti-magic. Omegon isn’t nearly as strong as Rank Leader Malal was, but nobody is.
WEAPONRY: A crowbar…and a tablet. Just like Malal.

Yuma confirms that she knows Remov and explains that she bought it herself together with Kyoko, wondering why it is in pieces. Shaking slightly at the memory of her old Rank leader, Yuma tells her that repairs will take some time but she will try to make it quick.
