==Character History==
===Malal Flashback===
Five years ago, Malal starts a rescue mission for an abducted rookie magical girl from her Officio that was already declared dead. She refuses her Incubator's network of associates and relies on her own contacts. One of them is Xiaomei Baocun, who serves as support during her stay in Varrigan City, one of the most dangerous places in the world.

Xiaomei calls Malal after her arrival and complains about the Culexus putting herself in danger for a lost cause, but is told that saving the missing girl is very important. The teleporter Malal used to travel to Varrigan City left her mind somewhat jumbled, so the chinese refreshes her memory about the mission.

Malal is to find the Vindicare recruit Ekaterina Valnikov whom she tracked up to this point, although Xiaomei mentions that the Culexus' sources are unconfirmed and that her target might not be around at all. She further explains that an extraction team is scheduled to arrive at Varrigan City Tower in four hours, reminding Malal to be quick about her business.

Xiaomei proceeds to introduce Malal's local contact, Professor Madaraki The Second, a Venenum from the Thirteenth Officio, who is supposed to be in Asian Town. She suggests stealing a motorcycle and taking Redline Highway to reach her and reminds Malal that she is in the territory of the Eighth Officio and should avoid their agents if possible.

When Malal is on Redline Highway, Xiaomei informs her of a distress signal close to her location, a magical girl chased by a motorcycle gang, injured and asking for support. She suggests ignoring it to avoid the delay. Malal asks for details, but Xiaomei without any identification Xiaomei can only infer from the language used that the signal is coming from a Second Officio girl and tells the Culexus to be wary of traps.

When Malal contacts her and shouts for not being told about trading her blood for Ekaterina's location, the chinese girl reminds her that she was asked to find a way to get to the target no matter what. Xiaomei explains that she managed to dissuade the Professor from taking living tissue samples of skin, muscle, hair, bone and even a kidney. She bargained her down as much as possible and tells Malal to think of it as a life saving transfusion.

While Malal works on Ekaterina's rescue, Xiaomei finds out that the planed evacuation site is compromised with a huge number of hostiles and that the plane can't get close. She contacts Fran Madaraki who agrees to take the Culexus and the others back to japan on her Officio's flagship. The chinese girl contacts Malal and reports her findings, telling her to trust Fran and connects a communication channel for them to talk directly.
